Case Types Code List of the Bombay High Court (HIGH COURT PRACTICE 6)
Courts
use short codes to denote various types of cases instead of
writing their full names. Understanding the meaning and full forms of these
codes is essential for effective litigation practice, particularly at the stage
of filing,
listing, and tracking cases. At the initial stage of
practice, junior lawyers often face confusion while interpreting these
abbreviations, making familiarity with case type codes extremely important.
The
use of case type codes is not uniform across the country.
Trial Courts and High Courts have developed their own sets of codes based on local
practice and administrative requirements. Therefore, advocates must be
acquainted with the specific codes used by the court in which they are
practicing.
Examples: WP – Writ Petition, FA – First Appeal, AO – Appeal from Order
